Chapter 4

Aurelia's POV,

Sitting alongside the pool, I gazed on my snow and white (her lovebirds), who appear to be more vigilant today. It's terrific to watch their wings flying through the air. It's a beautiful day outside, warm and breezy. Snow's chirp was soothing to my ears.

Life couldn't be any worse than this; I hadn't predicted his birthday to unfold out this way. Three years of our marriage have never ended with elation all at once. Our every interaction will be governed solely by his interest, and even though it was agonizing I embraced it totally for my Matty.

You heard it, Matty; that's what I used to call him in my fantasy. A fantasy in which he would be my Matty, but purely for me. When my parents died, I never aspired for anything more than to meet him once in my life. But, I believe, God anchored us for a cause.

I never cared how many times aunt Sabrina critiqued me by my family's standards until I had a family. Several people chastised me for being barren, for reasons I don't understand. Doctors even affirmed that I'm completely healthy to have a baby, but it may take some time.

I set out yesterday to spend time with him as I never have before in the hopes of making him realize how much I adore him. May, his companion, contributed for turning everything upwards. I failed to receive a good vibe from her the whole time she was here.

When I returned to our room, the gift remains intact, and the message had apparently disintegrated beneath the floor. I'm not sure what I did wrong to enrage him that much. I considered filing for divorce on occasion, but I quickly dismissed the idea because of my two families.

Little did I know that something perilous was building inside his thoughts. I often wonder if marrying Matteo was a mistake. Did I make him regret marrying me? If so, he should ask it right off the bat, and I'll do whatever it takes to get it over with.

I'd gladly sacrifice my happiness to ensure his happiness. His pleasure is my first objective, and if it means my demise, I'd gladly do it. Nothing matters more to me than my Matty's happiness. He is my only source of joy in my life.

Snow whined as a single tear fell from my eyes, and I giggled at his concern for me. I stepped back into the room with a sad sigh, not before rehanging my birds. I chose a wine red half-sleeve ankle length bustier dress from my closet.

My hurting muscles were soothed by a long shower before slipping into the chosen garment. With the necessary make-up, I'm ready for the party that my Matty ordered me to prepare for. I chose a twisted crown hairdo that complements my outfit.

The clock dingle notified me that it was time to leave because Matteo's chauffeur would be waiting below. I despise parties where people make fun of my infertility and helplessness. Topping it off, Matteo would never, ever stood by my side.

As I approached the porch, I noticed Matteo's Porsche standing in its magnificence, much like him. He's a car nut, which never made sense to me but was never expressed. I used to find Matteo and Lucas' fight for the automobile to be humorous.

With jumbled notions, I hoped inside the car, not expecting to see the man inside. Matteo sat inside like a heavenly man exclusively for my eyes. With his three-piece suits and flawlessly gelled hair, he's iniquitously striking. To purge my dirty thinking, I downed the lump in my throat.

His throat clearing sound drew me back, forcing my cheeks to flame up. He caught me red-handedly ogling him, which is beyond embarrassing. As we began to move forward, I tucked a scratchy strand of my hair behind my ear and my gaze was drawn to the window.

"Don't disgrace me in front of others and behave," he said shrewdly and I obliged.

Long ago, at a party, I told someone about us, nothing personal, just my white lies about Matteo's love, but it didn't end well when they teased him with my words. Since then, Matteo has warned me anytime we go to parties or events.

When the car arrived at the place, Matteo came around to my side and helped me out like a real gentleman. Before the reporters began to take pictures, Matteo pulled a gorgeous smile across his face, as if this was the only time, we were closer than usual.

As the revelry progressed, everyone began to tease me with their comments, as is customary. I rolled into the party, putting everything on hold for the sake of my Matty. A familiar squeaky voice drew my attention as I was ready to enter the buffet.

"Matt, my baby," May said, glowing and radiant.

"Hey May," Matteo said before luring her into his embrace, which ravaged my insides.

"Never told me that you're coming?" Matteo inquired; his face filled with care that he never expressed to me.

"Not like that baby, I completely forgot in my show." She is a model plus a spokesperson for Matteo's company.

I withdrew myself to the table with my plate, not wishing to injure myself any further in their show off. Despite the fact that I had lost my appetite, I took the plate so as not to offend anyone or waste the food. I'm so preoccupied with my dish and my mind that I don't notice a person nearing me.

"Enjoying yourself," said another familiar voice, this time Lucas.

"Hey," I said with a little smile, drawing a scowl between his brows.

"What happened, Aurie?" he enquired, massaging my palm.

"Nothing serious, man," I responded dismissively.

"Look Aurie, I know what a douche my brother is still you wished to bind in this so-called marriage, why?" He repeated the exact same question again, shattering my smile.

"Whether or not I answer this question, you won't understand Lucas," I reflected.

"Whatever," he scoffed, sensing my responses.

Soft music began to play as couples began to hit the floor, which made me grin. When I saw a familiar back with May in his arms, my smile evaporated. I've labored in vain hundreds of times to get him dance, but spotting another lady in his arms today has me immobile.

Each foist he declined given that he didn't like it, but now the scene made me choke. The heaviness in my chest was excruciating, and their body moved in unison. Rather than their proximity, the sheer delight and beam in their company made it extremely harder for me to stay put.

"Aurie, let's dance," Lucas urged, extending out his hand, but I'm not in the mood for companionship.

"Aurie, if you stay numb, he will keep inflicting you; never give him such power," Lucas counseled severely.

"Don't Lucas, I opted this so there's nobody at fault" I defended his comments.

"Look, Aurelia, if you love someone, it must be mirrored; contrary, your love has no meaning," she tried to explain the situation, which elicited a sardonic grin from my lips.

"Luca, my love doesn't require Matteo's reciprocation; it only needs his presence, solely him," I asserted, making him scoff.

The rest of the evening went smoothly, and Matty approached me as we walked back home. While he sunk in his la la land, the entire voyage was filled with chilling calm. When I arrived at the mansion, I entered our room without waiting for him, knowing better today.

Just prior to could enter my closet, a strong hand grasped my wrist and held it till my back was against the wall. The unforeseen incursion stupefied me, but I knew it had to be my spouse. But the wrath in his eyes suggested something was going to happen.

"What the fuck are you doing with Lucas?" he yelled, taking my breath away.
